Abstract
The works in this exhibition exist as recounted sites of personal memories attached to shame, desire, or both. These experiences are evoked through a combination of items of memorabilia, and stored memories recounted to the best of my ability. These are my memories, but they can also be yours if you’d like them. I want to know if by itemizing or almost personifying shame and desire, they lose their power. I often think of this pair of embodied emotions as the most powerful of affects (fear and love coming in a close 3rd + 4th position). But perhaps shame and desire are also resources; maybe they can function as tools to dismantle and understand certain impulses. Maybe you will experience my moments of shame and desire as a spectator, or through identificatory nostalgia. Either way, I hope you know I cherish them. They don’t exist as items of hurt. They appear here as opportunities of growth
