Lecture at NSCAD, Part 1:
Abstract
British potter and author Alan Caiger-Smith is a world class expert on lustre in ceramics. In this lecture he traces the use of the technique throughout history, from its development from glass tradition technology in Egypt and the Middle East to its presence in contemporary ceramics. On side-1, he comments on Syrian and Persian lustre, the movement of the lustre potters from Egypt to Persia, lustre's golden age in Kashan, its metaphysical or spiritual significance, Safavid period lustre, and the Alhambra vases. Side-2 explores Moorish pottery, Italian maiolica, William De Morgan, Clément Massier, twentieth century Egyptian ceramicists, Alan Peascod, and Caiger-Smith's own work.
Description
Good sounding recording. Left channel briefly cuts out just over halfway through side-1 and at the beginning of side-2.
