Abstract
"Through this dialog within myself I began to see alternatives to painting which could express the content that was more significant to me at the time. It was confusing at first to reject the tools which had sustained me emotionally and intellectually for so long, but I felt it was necessary to locate myself far away from the mesmerizing activity of moving a pencil or brush. I felt the challenge was worthwhile, and if I should return to painting eventually, I would have gained some perspective in the meantime, by setting it aside for awhile."
