This research aims to rebuild the relationship between people who live in an urban community where different types of transportation are used. How can we more effectively arouse civic awareness in diverse, intercultural urban environments in order to strengthen these relationships? As inspired by several street layouts in both Shanghai and Halifax, this research took as its starting point the existing isolated relationship between citizens who use all means of transportation. Through a series of data-collecting and analysis of bus stops in downtown Halifax, the urban- express transfer stops are determined as the focus to rebuilding citizens’ relationships. The current bus routes waiting area cannot satisfy local citizens’ needs and makes the street area less interactive due to its uncomfortable environment. The findings of this thesis contribute to improving public interactivity among citizens in urban design by regenerating public waiting areas.
